Neighborhood Villages Issues Statement on Closure of Federal Office of Child Care in Boston

Office served Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Rhode Island, and Connecticut

BOSTON, MA (April 4, 2025) – Neighborhood Villages has released a statement in response to the closure of the federal Region 1 Office of Child Care (OCC) in Boston, which served Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Rhode Island, and Connecticut.

Lauren Kennedy, co-founder of Neighborhood Villages, issued the following statement:

“The Office of Child Care plays a pivotal role in supporting working families and their children by ensuring access to quality early education and child care services. This decision by federal leaders to close the Region 1 OCC office undermines the already fragile child care infrastructure that countless families in the Commonwealth and across New England rely upon.

“At Neighborhood Villages, we stand in solidarity with early education and child care providers and remain committed to advocating for a comprehensive early education system that supports every child’s right to quality education and provides families with the child care options they so desperately need."
